Customers that subscribe to Cablevision System Corp. (NYSE: CVC) services could miss the baseball playoffs starting Saturday night when the Philadelphia Phillies face the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 on the National League Championship Series on News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) (NYSE: NWSA) Fox Network.
This could hurt a large number of fans, as the majority of Cablevision's 3 million customers are based in New York and Philadelphia.
The programming deal is set to expire just after midnight on Friday. These disputes usually get resolved at the last second.
Cablevison customers already endured missing the first 15 minutes of the Oscars earlier this year when the cable provider was in a contract dispute with The Walt Disney Co.'s (NYSE: DIS) ABC broadcast signal.
Charles Schueler, Cablevision's executive vice president of communications said in a statement that, "We will work around the clock to reach a new agreement and have appealed to News Corp. not to pull the plug on Fox 5 and My9. Cablevision would never take these broadcast stations away from our customers. While we would rather come to terms directly with News Corp., binding arbitration may be the best and fairest way to resolve this matter."
