CCTV Criticizes Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows 8 Platform

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is on watch Thursday following a China Central Television (CCTV) report criticizing Windows 8.

Reports out today have the CCTV report questioning the security behind the operating system. The report cited experts in saying that the operating system's maker would be able to obtain user data like phone numbers and bank account information.

The CCTV report also argued that Microsoft cooperated with the U.S. government on cyberspying efforts.

Further, the report stated that Jiangsu province canceled purchases of computers running the software as of last February.

Microsoft refutes the allegations. In a statement to Bloomberg, the company said, Our Government Security Program allows governments to review our source code to confirm there are no back doors ... Customers around the world have evaluated and embraced Windows 8 as our most secure operating system.

Shares of Microsoft are up 0.8 percent.
