CBS Thinks Tesla's (TSLA) Model S Revs Like Regular Cars

March 31, 2014 2:16 PM EDT
What does the Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) Model S sound like on the road? Not much really, you'll mostly just hear tire noise at speed.

Unless you're CBS, that is.

During the 60 Minutes segment that aired Sunday night (March 30th), there's a brief shot of the Model S sedan. The shot has the car simply driving down the road and taking a few turns at one point. What is curious is the dubbing.

Starting at 0:58 into the video, you hear an engine sound which many have attributed to being the chase car/motorcycle. Okay.

Shortly thereafter, the scenes start to change and the engine noise is still in the background.

It sees odd that 60 Minutes, a venerable program in its own right, would make the mistake of not putting some sort of light music or subtle tire noise over the scene. While it really isn't a big deal, it might give some potential customers or company critics the image that the Model S has a revving sound like an internal combustion engine (ICE). Really, it doesn't. The sound effects sound more like science fiction or a small European auto versus a robust, higher-performance sedan.

The intro didn't' take away from the segment at all, but was just an oddity that some found unusual. Shares of Tesla are down 2.5 percent.

Again, that video can be found here.
