In Gene Marcial's weekly BusinessWeek column he wrote about three stock ideas, including Sotheby's (Nasdaq: BID), Polycom (Nasdaq: PLCM) and Stereotaxis (Nasdaq: STXS).
Gene Marcial thinks that Sotheby's is a good buy that takes advantage of the new wealth created by DJIA hitting new highs this month. Rommel Dionisio of Wedbush Morgan said Sotheby's "is away to participate in the trend of rising wealth around the world." Sotheby's has also been able to increase its commission it charges sellers from 20% to 25% which should help boost earnings.
The second stock idea that he covered was Polycom and this one is a play on its current valuation. It has dropped 20% in September on worries that it might miss Q3 earnings. Analysts believe it is oversold and could move from $25 to $40 in six months.
Finally, Stereotaxis makes devices used in minimally invasive cardiac arrhythmia surgery. By using Stereotaxis instruments it takes less time and reduces exposure to X-rays. Stereotaxis is trying to make its system standard in treatment of coronary diseases and irregular heartbeat. Herman Saftlas of Standard & Poor's, says Sterotaxis benefits from the growth of new procedures for atrial fibrillation. More than 10,000 procedures have been performed using Stereotaxis, says CEO Bevil Hogg.
