Warren Buffett's merger and acquisition advisor at Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), Byron Trott, is leaving the company to start his own merchant-banking firm, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal.
According to the Journal, Mr. Trott is raising funds to invest in family-controlled and entrepreneurial companies.
Berkshire Hathaway plans to invest in Mr. Trott's firm on a small scale.
It is unclear if the decision by Mr. Trott to leave Goldman was based in part due to the recent moves by the government to limit compensation at companies that have received TARP funds. Goldman has received $10 billion in TARP funds but has indicated that they want to pay back the government after results from the 'stress test' are known.
