Following an accusation that Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) Steve Jobs doesn't make charitable contributions - publicly anyway - by Andrew Ross Sorkin, the article has received some criticism.

But a new supporter of the "Jobs Cause" has emerged in legendary rock star and U2 front man, Bono!
We're obviously downplaying a little with Bono's importance here, but jokes aside, the man has done a lot for the betterment of society globally. The National Journal named him as the most politically effective celebrity of all time. He's hung with George W. Bush, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, and freaking Pope John Paul II, among others. Time named him co-Person of the Year in 2005 along side no-namers Bill and Melinda Gates (joke). In 2007, he was awarded the NAACP Image Awards Chairman's Award.
Today, he writes a letter lauding Steve Jobs and Apple's efforts to help his foundation, (Product)RED, which is an effort to assist in the fight to end AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Yes, that tuberculosis, the one that left the U.S. years ago due to proper vaccination, but still infects 13.7 million people annually in third world nations, leading to 1.8 million deaths (in 2007 alone).
Bono's letter is short and sweet, saying that Apple's contribution to (Product)RED's "fight against AIDS in Africa has been invaluable." Apple has been one of the foundation's largest contributor, donating "tens of millions of dollars." He said Apple's investment also encouraged other companies to step-up and donate.
Bono continued: Steve Jobs said when we first approached him about (RED), "There is nothing better than the chance to save lives."
Well, that's pretty significant.
Closing the letter, Bono further recognizes Jobs, saying, "I'm proud to know him; he's a poetic fellow, an artist and a businessman. Just because he's been extremely busy, that doesn't mean that he and his wife, Laurene, have not been thinking about these things."
