BlackBerry (BBRY) Reaches 1 Billion Ad Requests/Day Generation Milestone on BBM

BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) posted the following to its official blog on Tuesday:

Earlier this year I wrote about the milestone of hitting 1 billion views in our BBM Shop after only 12 months. In the last four weeks we have celebrated 10 years of BBM reflecting our various accomplishments over that period and touted our strong momentum in mobile commerce.

Now, I am pleased to announce we have hit another mobile commerce milestone: our BBM users running the Android, iOS and BlackBerry apps are now consistently generating more than 1 billion ad requests per day!

Since we launched our Native Ad units last July, we have seen solid interest in Sponsored Posts and Invites, as well as our Sponsored Sticker packs. This is from e-commerce brands, financial services firms, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies, or the travel and automotive industry – basically any brand looking to interact and engage with consumers via mobile.

We are also now experimenting with our new Video Ad format in the feed, and expect to see significant interest from brands and media buyers looking to leverage existing 15/30 second video ad inventory in the back half of this year.

Whether it’s through our direct sales team based globally, regional resellers, or our indirect ad network partners and exchanges such as InMobi, Google’s AdMob, AdMarvel, Smaato, Axonix and AdFalcon, we are working to increase our fill rates and the performance of our ad units. The next exciting step for us will be moving some of this direct supply to programmatic ads, which will take us to a whole new avenue in relation to increasing our demand.

This exciting milestone of 1 billion ad requests per day, combined with our other recent announcements regardingPayPal money transfers within the BBM Chat window, the BBM Money instant pay and Pay Now integrated Ads units, and new functionality like Private Chat, should remind people that BBM is very much alive and thriving.

With our engaged audience across Android, iPhone, Windows and BlackBerry, BBM is in a very interesting position to take advantage of the growth opportunity in bringing Social, Commerce and Ads together.
