BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) is putting some of its patent properties to use as it reels from Monday's news that no deal will be made to take the company private.
Bloomberg said today that BlackBerry has filed a patent infringement suit against Cypress Semi (Nasdaq: CY) in Dallas.
BlackBerry alleges that Cypress infringed on two patents: one covering batter-charging controllers and the other for wireless system-on-a-chip products. BlackBerry also filed a suit in Northern California for three other patents related to USB-charging technology.
The suit and counterclaim from BlackBerry are in response to a suit filed by Cypress last September.
Shares of BlackBerry are up 2.5 percent Tuesday.
