BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) is launching its Q10 smartphone in India and some speculate that the company might struggle to meet sales expectations.
Of course, the biggest argument is price. The WSJ noted on Thursday that the Q10 will start at 44,990 rupees (about $790), which makes it the second-most expensive smartphone in BlackBerry's stable after the Porsche-designed P9981 (at $2,444).
One analyst from CyberMedia Research said that the most loyal BlackBerry customers in India, which tend to be business executives, have already made a switch to the Z10. He continued that it was unlikely that the customer base would then switch to the Q10 following such a short period of time.
Making things more challenging is Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) launching its Nexus 4 and Panasonic debuting its P51 smartphones recently. In addition, Lenovo brought six new devices to the Indian market yesterday.
CyberMedia Research noted that BlackBerry controlled 7.5 percent of 15.2 million smartphones shipped to India in 2012.
Shares of BlackBerry are indicated higher Thursday.
