BlackBerry (BBRY): No BBM for Windows Phone (MSFT)

BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) has looked to expand its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) presence, but there are a few users that will never get to use the program.

Reports out Friday have BlackBerry saying it has no plans to bring BBM to the Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone operation system.

Other popular apps like Vine and Instagram have made apps for WP, but BlackBerry said there wasn't enough demand to port BBM onto WP.

BBM launched on Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS last October.

It might be fun to speculate that BlackBerry is waging a quiet war on Microsoft after Windows Phone (by some accounts) has overtaken BlackBerry for smartphone market shar worldwide. But, we think BlackBerry has resigned to focus more on the enterprise market rather than consumers and we're not sure BBM is as important to businesses as secure email and connectivity.

Shares of BlackBerry are up 5.7 percent Friday.
