Bitcoin Stolen From Bloomberg TV Anchor While On-Air

December 23, 2013 2:07 PM EST
Bitcoin is currently a valuable form of currency. If you can hold onto it.

New York Magazine noted today that Matt Miller, news anchor from Bloomberg TV, was giving his co-workers $20 worth of Bitcoin for the holidays. The gifts arrived and one of the recipients flashed the QR code for the private key on television. Aside from that basically exposing the anchor's bank account number and PIN, his Bitcoin was promptly stolen.

The theft was done by a Reddit user who boasted about the effort on the social media site. Host Matt Miller congratulated the hacker, posting, haha -- YES!!! so freaking classic but also a GREAT lesson in bitcoin security! you can keep the $20 -- well earned...

So, if you're thinking about investing in Bitcode, don't flash your QR code around like a big shot!

After a volatile few weeks of trading, Bitcoin is hovering around $635 today.
