Spring cleaning?

According to market reports, Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) is slashing prices on Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad tablet by as much as 30 percent. Of note, the iPad is the third-generation model, not the newest. The device still has retina display, but a slower processor and 30-pin connector. If you're okay with that, you can get an iPad starting at $314.99 with 16-gigabytes of storage and Wifi connection.

CultOfMac notes the following price changes:
  • 16GB iPad WiFi + Cellular for $405.99 (was $579.99)
  • 32GB iPad WiFi + Cellular for $475.99 (was $679.99)
  • 64GB iPad WiFi+ Cellular for $545.99 (was $779.99)
  • 16GB iPad WiFi for $314.99 (was $449.99)
  • 32GB iPad WiFi for $384.99 (was $549.99)
  • 64GB iPad WiFi for $454.99 (was $649.99)

As mentioned, Best Buy might be making the move to free up some space for the next-generation iPad, which might be delayed due to the late-2012 launch of the fourth-generation iPad and iPad mini.

Also of note, the lowest-cost iPad at Best Buy is coming in the starter version of the iPad mini ($329.00).

Shares of Apple are up about 1 percent on the session.
