Barclays Capital raised its U.S. GDP forecast and expects growth to pick up 5% in the first quarter of 2010 before settling into a more sustainable, but still above-trend, pace.

The firm said 5% growth seem outrageous, but it is not by historical standards.

On Federal Reserve rate hikes, the firm expects the first to occur in the third quarter of 2010.
