Telsa (Nasdaq: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, during a conference call following the unleashing of the company's patents on Thursday, mentioned that engineers and officials from BMW visited the company on Wednesday night.
TheVerge noted that BMW affirmed having discussions with Tesla. One spokesperson for BMW said, Both companies are strongly committed to the success of electro-mobility and discussed how to further strengthen the development of electro-mobility on an international level.
One of the bigger issues above and beyond technology used in Tesla's cars is its Supercharging network and components. Tesla is the only EV manufacturer using its specific design, with just about every other EV using a different standard. While Musk has defended the design and efficiency of his chargers in the past, other manufacturers will be able to hop on board and help expand the network at very little (legal) cost.
Tesla is positive in early trading Friday.
