As Samsung/Apple Fight Wages, Both are Selling Phones Like Crazy (AAPL)

Although Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Sumsung have been at each others throats across the globe in an attempt to halt sales of each others phones, it seems that the demand is still large enough for the both to enjoy.
On December 11th, Samsung reported mobile handset sales topped 300 million units at the end of last for the year, strong growth over the 280 million units total for 2010. Management noted demand for its flagship Galaxy S smartphone series, the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, have been driving the growth. Since the Galaxy S II was launched in April, Samsung has sold roughly 10 million units.
The growth Samsung is experiencing is not due to a loss in market share to Apple which itself reported iPhone units sale rose 21 percent year-over-year in the last reported quarter. Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI) announced during its last quarterly report that smartphone sales increased by 26.3 percent to 4.8 million units.
Isuppli.com forecasts DRAM shipments in smartphone handsets will grow 157.2 percent to 1.7 billion in 2011, compared to 672 million in 2010. The research firm believes shipments will increase by 13.9 billion units by 2015. This increase represents a 700 percent increase from 2011.
