Apple's Wozniak: Android will Win Smartphone Race (AAPL, NOK, GOOG, MSFT)

In an interview with Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, recently, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) Co-Founder Steve Wozniak said that, although Apple is a strong competitor, Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android will ultimately win the smartphone race, at least in terms of the numbers of consumers adopting the OS. He is in the Netherlands to open the Science & Technology Summit at the World Forum in The Hague.
Wozniak compares Android to Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows in its early days, when it was struggling with problems. He thinks Android quality and satisfaction could be better, though users will flock to it because it has a much wider range than Apple's iPhone. He said that the Apple device and platform are "not for everyone."
Separately, he also commented that Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has an image problem, and should launch a new brand that appeals to the younger generation.
The numbers speak for themselves. comScore (Nasdaq: SCOR) reported recently that Google's Android, though still lagging Apple, jumped 650 basis points sequentially for a 21.4% market share as of September. For the same period in 2009, Google held only about 3% of the market.
