Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has something sweet up its sleeve for the still-unannounced iPhone 5.
According to reports Tuesday from TechCrunch, the iPhone 5 will indeed be a "world phone," or one that supports multiple networks like CDMA and GSM.
App usage logs sent to TechCrunch show "a tiny number of people have recently registered for one of their applications from a single, brand new Apple device that is decidedly dual-mode – meaning it supports both CDMA and GSM."
With Apple now catering to CDMA-carrier Verizon (NYSE: VZ) as well as GSM-carrier AT&T (NYSE: T), it makes sense the company would introduce one phone which works with both networks.
The new iPhone would be huge for consumers living and traveling abroad, where limited cell networks could leave costumers without service in certain areas.
