So long-ah, Android!
Data from research giant Nielsen showed that Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) major launch of its iPhone 4S (equipped with Siri!) is causing havoc for Google (Nasdaq: GOOG). Nielsen said that data from the most recent survey has 44.5 percent of new smartphone owners opting for an iPhone 4S, up significantly from just 25.1 percent in October.
Of total new iPhone owners, 57 percent said they went with an iPhone 4S.
Don't fear, though, Android is still in the overall smartphone lead, with 46.3 percent of all U.S. smartphone users.
In total, 46 percent of U.S. customers now use a smartphone. This is a great figure for carriers like Verizon (NYSE: VZ), AT&T (NYSE: T), and Sprint (NYSE: S), which see better margins as customers consume more data.
Notably, on the other end of the spectrum, data also shows that Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) saw fewer adapters, dropping from 7.7 percent in October, to 4.5 percent at the end of December 2011.
Early Wednesday, Apple is up about 0.4 percent, while Google and RIM are both lower.
