Apple's (AAPL) iPad Now Faces Real Competition; Samsung Galaxy Tab (GOOG)

For the past seven months, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has single handily wrote the book on the tablet computer, with the iPad. However there is a new game in town that has a legitimate rival in the Galaxy Tab from Samsung.
The Galaxy Tab is powered by Google Inc.'s (NASDAQ: GOOG) and offers users some experiences that the iPad fails to.
The Samsung tablet has front and back facing cameras and support for Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) Flash. Although the iPad is rumored be equipped with cameras in its second incarnation sure to come shortly.
The Galaxy Tab debuted this week by three major wireless carriers at $400 with a two-year contract or $600 without. The iPad starts at $499 for a Wi-Fi only model and $629 for a cellular capable model without a contract.
The Tab sports a 7-inch screen compared to the 9.7-inch screen on the iPad.
Samsung's device was introduced by Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S). T-Mobile and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) with varying data plans. The device will soon be available on the AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) network.
The iPad is currently distributed through AT&T and Verizon.
Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg says that the Galaxy Tab is a serious alternative to the iPad.
