Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is looking to increase its iPad presence in China as it seeks more aggressive expansion into the country.
According to reports Tuesday morning, Apple was issued a network access license from China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center for a device with 3G, high-speed wireless data capabilities.
The device, which is WCDMA compatible, would run on China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU) network.
Though Apple offers a 3G version of the iPad in Hong Kong, only the WiFi version of the tablet is available in mainland China. Consumers in China haven't been phased, however, and have purchased 3G tablets through the black market.
Apple is trading 0.8 percent lower Tuesday morning.
