While the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 5c wasn't as hot a seller as the iPhone 5s, just how bad might things be?
According to Digitimes, there are inventories of over three million iPhone 5c units, which consist of two million units at Pegatron and one million in the distribution chain.
Sources said that weak points for the iPhone 5c include its higher-than-expected price point and 4-inch display, which is comparatively small by today's industry standards.
Apple was said to stop placing orders for the device at the end of 2013.
Given the contracts carriers have with Apple, big discounts on the device arent' likely.
One positive is that this flub might help Apple recalculate its smartphone strategy moving forward and probably opt for larger displays in the future.
Shares of Apple are modestly lower Thursday.
