Apple (AAPL) Supplier Pegatron Gets Small iPad 3 Order

January 10, 2012 7:29 AM EST
Taiwan manufacturer Pegatron Technology has reportedly received initial orders for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) new iPad 3 tablet.

According to Digitimes, Pegatron said the orders come ahead of the iPad 3 launch in March.

Further, Pegatron is expected "to see a significant increase in its orders for Apple's "iPad 4," which is scheduled to launch in October, with an initial volume of about 7-10 million units."

Apple's strategy has also shifted, according to Digitimes. Pegatron will begin to primarily focus on iPad production, and serve as an auxiliary producer for iPhones, while Foxconn Electronics will take the opposite role. Sources said that, "Apple's new strategy is meant to decrease risk and increase the quality of its products and the company has already visited Pegatron's plants in China several times recently to ensure the smoothness of the shipment process."

Shares of Apple are indicated higher Tuesday.
