Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) investors are looking to make history Thursday as buyers have bid the stock up a sharp $18, or nearly 4 percent, this morning, bringing the price to within striking distance of the monolithic $500 benchmark.
After closing just under $477 on Wednesday, the stock gapped over the $480 level and upside intensified as shares pushed over $490. The massive push higher comes amid very heavy volume: Apple normally trades about 11 million shares each day; just after 11am ET on Thursday, more than 14 million shares have already exchanged hands.
