The Middle East and Africa (MEA) could be another key growth region for Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) in the coming years and, according to recent research, the area is already seeing positive adaption.
Digitimes, citing Counterpoint Research data, said Apple's share of the MEA smartphone market rose from 2.2 percent in Q314 up to 3.9 percent in the most-recent quarter. That's growth of over 130 percent and places Apple in the top-five brands in the region.
Overall, smartphone shipments rose 31 percent in MEA during Q315, compared to just a 23 percent increase for the total mobile phone segment.
Samsung is the clear leader in the region with a 41 percent market share, though that's down 9 points versus Q314. Huawei is in second position with a 74 percent on-year growth rate.
Shares of Apple are indicated slightly lower Wednesday.
