August 12, 2014 12:31 PM EDT

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) says its workforce is similar to other tech companies in and around silicon valley.

The WSJ notes that Apple's workforce is just 30 percent female, flat with peers like Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG).

About 55 percent of Apple's U.S. staff is white, 15 percent is Asian, 11 percent Hispanic, and 7 percent black.

With the recent figures, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, Let me say up front: As CEO, I’m not satisfied with the numbers on this page ... They are not new to us, and we’ve been working hard for quite some time to improve them. We are making progress, and we’re committed to being as innovative in advancing diversity as we are in developing our products.

Apple shares are nearly flat Tuesday.
