Following up on an earlier headline saying Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) did not get a request for more information from the FBI following recent allegations a hacker group took IDs from an FBI laptop.
Apple issued the following statement to AllThingsD: The FBI has not requested this information from Apple, nor have we provided it to the FBI or any organization. Additionally, with iOS 6 we introduced a new set of APIs meant to replace the use of the UDID* and will soon be banning the use of UDID."
The group involved, AntiSec, said it took unique IDs for some 12 million iPad and iPhone users, though the FBI immediately said the story wasn't true.
Despite the downplay, Apple is trading about 0.2 percent lower Wednesday afternoon, having been in negative territory most of the session.
* UDID = Unique Device Indetifiers.
