Last month, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) hit a speed bump in China after issues surrounding the compatibility of its iPhone 4S and China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL) SIM cards. But those issues can be put to rest now, according to China Mobile.
As reported in the People's Daily Online (PDO), Apple has modified how the iPhone 4S interacts with the GSM chip and ensured that all devices manufactured after February 8th would now run on China Mobile's network without issues. For customer who purchased the iPhone 4S before February 8th, Apple said it will be issuing an iOS update soon to fix those problems.
The PDO noted "the signal problems were caused by iPhone 4S handsets’ GSM chips, which only supports the P frequency band (885-915MHZ), but does not support the E frequency band (880-890MHz)." Consequently, users were able to get a signal indoors but not make any calls.
Because of the iPhone's incompatibility with China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network, users have been forced to run off of its 2G network, the primary reason for China Mobile not selling more of the device to date. However, the carrier said that issue should be fixed when it performs LTE network testing in June.
Apple is up about 0.3 percent on Monday's session.
