Apple (AAPL) Plans Launch of Online TV Service

March 17, 2015 7:19 AM EDT

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is planning to launch its own online television service as it works to build out its already-robust ecosystem.

According to the WSJ, Apple will offer a slimmed-down bundle of TV networks, anchored by such names as ABC, CBS, and Fox. The service would have a total of about 25 channels.

The service won't include NBCUniversal as of right now due to a falling out between Apple and parent company Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA).

Apple is also in talks with Disney (NYSE: DIS), CBS Corp. (NYSE: CBS), and 21st Century Fox (Nasdaq: FOXA), among other providers.

Pricing for the bundle may run $30 to $40 per month. The service is expected to be announced in June and launch in September. All iOS-enabled devices are expected to be able access the platform.

Shares of Apple are lower in early trading.
