Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) isn't going to be the first major mobile device and electronics company to build its own smartwatch. In fact, it's already losing ground in iOS compatible devices.
According to WantChinaTimes.com, Hon Hai Precision -- better known as Foxconn -- demonstrated a smartwatch which is compatible with Apple's iOS operating system. The device, which comes in any color you want as long as its black, tells users about messages, Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) notifications, and vital signs like respiration and heartbeat.
Foxconn is best-known as the maker of Apple products, though it also contracts for various other companies and builds its own devices from time to time.
Should the devices measurements not be as accurate as possible, the device will give suggestions to the user on how to improve them.
It appears that it won't be as robust as an Apple-branded smartwatch, which is expected to sport a 1.5-inch OLED display. However, should the price be right, it might be an alternative for something like Nike's (NYSE: NKE) Fuelband, which retails for roughly $150 in the U.S.
