Apple (AAPL) MacBook Shipments Could Lag in FQ4

July 24, 2013 11:41 AM EDT
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) had a solid third-quarter 2013 report on the back of strong iPhone sales, but there might be some positive gains for the company in the current quarter on another device.

Digitimes reports that MacBook shipments could hit 4 million units in Apple's fiscal fourth-quarter 2013. That would be a 10 percent gain over the same period last year, but drop on a year-over-year basis. Apple's Q4 is generally the peak selling time for MacBooks, with unit volumes averaging 5 million to 6 million units in past years.

The firm cites Taiwan supply chain sources on the information.

News comes as Apple was anticipating bigger MacBook sales in 2013, ordering up ahead of time. Lackluster sales have caused the company to suspend orders through the first-half of 2013.

Apple shipped 3.75 million Macs in FQ3. Shares are up 5.7 percent on Wednesday's session.
