Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) may have the panel industry in a scramble with its upcoming iPad display order.
According to Digitimes, thin-film touch panel suppliers are vying to land more orders from Apple for the next-generation tablet. The move indicates further desire for Apple to move away from Samsung, which has reportedly lowered prices to Apple for its iPad mini in an effort to win back business.
Higher order volume is expected in third-quarter 2013, sources said.
The new iPad should use the similar thin-film DITO (G/F2) touch panel structure as the iPad mini.
Also of note is Apple's iPad sales estimate shift: from prior expectations to sell 60 million iPad units and 40 million iPad mini units, Apple now sees shipments of 33 million iPads and 55 million iPad mini. The data isn't new given the strong demand the iPad mini has seen in Asian markets, but it hints that margin pressure may increase over the coming quarters.
Apple is indicated for a higher open Tuesday.
