The battle of graphics chips giants is a heated one, with recent news adding a little more fuel to the fire.
According to reports out late Monday night, Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) next MacBook will utilize NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA) chips over GPUs from Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD).
AppleInsider noted 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models utilize AMD's Radeon HD 6750M and 6770M chips, while the smaller 13-inch version simply relies on integrated Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) graphics.
Also on Monday, Bloomberg said Apple will debut thinner, lighter, sweeter MacBooks at its WWDC in June. The devices -- which will run on Intel chips -- should have flash memory for quicker start-ups, longer battery life, and high-definition screens akin to iPads and iPhones. It's not clear whether going with NVIDIA GPUs was as much a size decision as evaluation of capability and price.
Shares of NVIDIA are lower Tuesday, while AMD and Apple are indicated higher.
