Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is looking spry this morning, shares up about 2.3 percent following second-quarter data.
However, investors may or may not be surprised by one thing: Nokia is no longer the smartphone King. That title was passed to Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) today, according to the Financial Times and reports from the two companies.
Smartphone shipments in the quarter fell 34 percent to 16.7 million units, more than 17 percent below the 20.3 million shipped by Apple in the quarter.
Nokia may have seen this coming, inking a deal with Microsoft in February for Windows Phone OS. The partnership has revamped sales quite as quickly as hoped for Nokia.
Apple is trading 0.6 percent lower on the session, following a 2.7 percent run yesterday.
