Apple (AAPL) Files Complaint Against Websites Marring 'iPhone' Name

You can have fun at an Apple website, but just not that much fun.

According to reports, Cupertino, CA-based Apple, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is beginning to crack down on Internet domain names utilizing Apple's brands to direct users to -- ahem -- "adult-themed" websites.

Domain names like "iphone4s.com," "iphonecamforce.com," "iPhonecam4s.com," and other NSFW names have been registered, and users are forwarded to a mobile adult-themed website.

Apple has filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization over the matter.

The "iphone4s.com" site, probably the best and most unintentional prediction of a new product name ever, was registered in August 2008, giving it a three-year head start on Apple in bringing the iPhone 4S to market.

According to AppleInsider: "The World Intellectual Property Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations. WIPO, along with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, have developed rules for resolving domain name ownership disputes. That process is known as the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy, and it applies to top-level domains including .com, .net, and .org."
