At Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone OS 4.0 event today, Steve Jobs unveiled several exciting new developments for the smartphone, including something that every iPhone-user has been longing for: MULTITASKING!
The event kicked off with Jobs highlighting a number of interesting statistics related to its just-released iPad. He said the company has now sold more than 450,000 iPads and users have already downloaded more than 3.5 million apps for the device.
Along with the multitasking news, Jobs also told an audience of Apple fanatics that the new 4.0 OS adds the iBooks capability to the iPhone. He also highlighted the software's improved data protection for e-mail and a new "Game Center" for the smartphone.
Shares of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) have been extremely volatile today amid the event. Trading in negative territory for most of the session, the stock turned positive as Jobs announced the long-awaited multitasking news, but profits were quickly collected and the stock is now back, modestly, in the red. The stock last traded at $240.33.
