Apple (AAPL) Begins Censoring Outbound Messages

July 6, 2011 8:24 AM EDT
Exercising further control over its users, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has reportedly begun to censor outgoing messages from its MobileMe service.

Typically, users would want inbound mail to be censored and sent to a spam folder. No one wants a mailbox cluttered with special Viagra deals, or ways to receive money from a Kenyan Prince who has "too much of it."

However, filtering outgoing messages seems like backwards thinking, unless you are specifically spamming someones email in-box yourself (think ex-girlfriend/boyfriend, co-worker, etc.).

U.K.'s the Daily Register claims users have begun to complain about outbound censoring. One user says his message was blocked because it mentioned the phrase "growing hostility against Frankfurt and Brussels."

Other users who use MobileMe have tested the concerns and come to the same conclusion. It's not clear whether the censorship will extend beyond MobileMe.
