Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) may be already prepping to start production of its next iPad and aiming for a mid-2013 launch.
According to Digitimes, the Cupertino, CA-based tech giant is telling suppliers in Taiwan and China that it will want production on its new iPad to start soon.
The news site also noted that the next tablet will have fewer LED chips for backlighting than the 84 used in the current iPad. Instead of a one-chip LED baklight unit (BLU), the new iPad will use two to simplify the manufacturing process.
Some revisions might also be made to Apple's New iPads, though those won't be revealed until early next year.
Many are expecting a smaller version of Apple's tablet wunderkind to be revealed before the end of the month and Q412 results will be reported on October 25th.
Shares of Apple are indicated for a higher open Tuesday.
