Just how clutch is 4G LTE network access anyway?
According to reports out Tuesday by the BBC, Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) advertising tactics for the iPad in the U.K. have drawn wider scrutiny from regulators. The reason? Apple says the iPad will have 4G network access in the U.K.
Although the devices are equipped with 4G chips, the current footprint of coverage is small and regulators contend Apple's tablet will not even be able to run on the U.K.'s 4G network. Why advertising for 4G was there in the first place is a great question...
In earlier cases, Apple and the Advertising Standards Authority worked together to detail the iPad's 4G capabilities, saying the network would only work in the U.S. and Canada.
The issue follows Apple getting in trouble in Australia for the same claims. Following investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Apple offered refunds to those who were unhappy with their iPad.
Shares of Apple are trading up nearly 2 percent Tuesday morning.
