Apple (AAPL) 'iTV' Begins Shaping-Up, May Have Bespoke Chipset

Since it's the holidays, and everyone's in that "shopping mood," here's a little more sauce about the rumored Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iTV to whet your appetite for 2012.

It will be square. Well, not square-square, but rectangular-square. Digitimes reported Tuesday sizes of the iTV will range from 32- or 37-inches.

While suppliers will include the usuals like Sharp and Samsung, Taiwan Semi (NYSE: TSM), Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (NYSE: ASX) and Siliconware Precision Industries (Nasdaq: SPIL) have now been rumored to be in the mix. The three may have submitted bids to build a custom ARM (Nasdaq: ARMH)-based chipset, similar to the A4 CPU released in the first iPad.

Obviously, Apple's go-to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) will probably get assembly orders.

According to Digitimes, Apple will then finalize orders for hardware and components by the end of the second quarter in 2012.
