Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is not the least bit worried that Amazon.com's (Nasdaq: AMZN) soon to be launched Kindle Fire will hurt iPad sales.
CEO Tim Cook noted on the company's recent conference call that a number of competitors have tried to compete with the iPad, all without much success.
"We've seen several competitors come to market to try to compete with the iPad over time," Cook said. "Some had different form factors, different price points. And I think it's reasonable to say that none of these have gained any traction thus far."
Cook notes that even as all of the competitor have come to the market, their share of the market actually went up - accounting for three out of every four tablets sold in the June quarter.
Apps and other Apple-centric tools separate the iPad from others, Cook said.
"I think when you really assess this thing and look at iOS 5, iCloud, the ecosystem with iTunes and the Apps Store and books and movies and the fact that we have over 140,000 native apps for iPad versus a number in the hundreds for the other guys," Cook commented.
"I feel very, very confident about our ability to compete and extremely confident in our product pipeline."
Apple sold 11.1 million iPad units in its latest quarter.
The Kindle Fire officially goes on sale November 15, 2011, although pre-orders are being accepted at Amazon.com's website.
