Apple (AAPL), Kodak (EKDKQ) Patent Litigation Sees Temporary Halt
Looks like Apple's litigation against defunct Eastman Kodak will have to wait...for now.
According to reports out this afternoon, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Allan Gropper, who is overseeing Kodak's (OTCBB: EKDKQ) Chapter 11 bankruptcy, said it would be "inappropriate" to allow Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) to pursue litigation against Kodak with respect to a digital photo preview patent for LCD screens.
According to Reuters, Gropper did agree that the case needed to be solved "sooner rather than later," though no time frame was given. Reuters quotes Gropper in saying, "I would request that the parties report to me on their efforts to come up with a procedure that truly works."
For its part, Kodak did accuse Apple of trying to slow its patent sale process, to which an Apple lawyer responded with "I'm sure they have no problem moving ahead with the lawsuits where they're the complainants."
Touche. Apple shares are higher on Thursday's session.
