Apple's (AAPL) Cook Sees Watch Revolutionizing Smartwatch Segment

February 27, 2015 12:50 PM EST

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) CEO Tim Cook conducted an interview with the British press ahead of the upcoming Apple Watch launch and March 9th event.

Cook noted that the Watch will become a mainstay once consumers unlock its full potential. This will be just like the iPhone: people wanted it and bought for a particular reason, perhaps for browsing, but then found out that they loved it for all sorts of other reasons, Cook commented to the U.K.'s Telegraph.

Naturally, Cook also sees the Apple Watch revolutionizing the smartwatch market, which has largely been dabbled with a few hits like Pebble and the Moto 360. The device will be able to monitor health, while also replacing car fobs. Cook says the watch will offer rewards for users that exercise enough, though specifics of what those credits could be used for weren't detailed.

The Apple Watch will also integrate Apple Pay for ease of making payments with retailers.

Shares of Apple are down 0.4 percent Friday.
