There's been some recent speculation that Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) might release Windows 365, which would be a subscription model of the famous operating system.
However, ZDNet noted recently that there won't be a subscription model Windows, because Windows is a platform, not a service. Plus, most consumers get a Windows upgrade when they purchase new hardware; few consumers actually go out and buy the next update.
While Microsoft is looking to lower the price of Windows anyway, it's hoping to make up the shift via selling services like Skype and Office. Those are more like subscription models that consumers use on a daily basis.
