American Express (AXP) Lower Following Q4 Results, Cautious Outlook

American Express (NYSE: AXP) is down 2.7% after-hours Monday after reporting disappointing Q4 results and providing a cautious outlook.

American Express reported Q4 earnings of $0.71, in line with analyst estimates. Revenues for the quarter were $7.4 billion, below the consensus of $7.85 billion.

American Express said its 2008 outlook remains cautious.

American Express said they remain confident in their ability, on average and over time, to meet their long-standing financial targets of 12 to 15 percent EPS growth, at least 8 percent revenue growth and a return on equity of 33 to 36 percent.
