Amazon.com (AMZN) Said Exploring Potential VR Content Creation, Distribution Initiatives

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is working on a virtual reality platform and potential VR device, according to market reports out early Tuesday.

UploadVR noted a job posting on Glassdoor with Amazon Video moving to hire a senior software development manager for virtual reality. The position could call for multiple candidates.

Basic qualifications for the Amazon job include:

• Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 15+ years of relevant engineering experience
• 7+ years of technical experience as software developer, or related role
• 5+ years of relevant experience as a software development manager
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals
• A proven track record of building teams and delivering software through all phases of development

UploadVR sees Amazon looking or distribute 360-degree VR content, not just build a VR platform.

News also comes as peer Netflix has also expressed interest in the VR and augmented reality segment.

Shares of Amazon are indicated lower Tuesday morning.
