Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is following through on word that it would pull competing set-top boxes (STBs) and media sticks from its shelves.
Reports out Friday have Amazon no longer selling Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) Apple TV or Alphabet's (Nasdaq: GOOG)(Nasdaq: GOOGL) Chromecast. The news was first reported earlier in October.
While Amazon says the move comes as the devices aren't compatible with its video service, the move is clearly aimed at selling more Amazon Fire TVs and Fire TV sticks. The company hasn't reported specific numbers, but the general consensus is that the products are laggards to Apple TV and Chromecast.
Shares of Amazon are up modestly Friday.
