As rumored, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) raises prices of Amazon Prime from $79 to $99, according to the company's website. Beginning April 17, existing Prime members will pay the new fee on their subsequent annual renewal date.
On its site, Amazon said, "For the first time since it was introduced nine years ago, the price of Prime is going up. Existing Prime members will pay $99 per year on their annual renewal date and Amazon Student members will pay $49." The Prime Fresh membership fee will remain unchanged at $299.
New customers that start a free-trial between now and March 20 will lock in the $79 rate for the first year.
