More chatter about a possible Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) smartphone.
According to DigiTimes research, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Amazon (Nasdaq; AMZN), and other Internet service companies will lead the Chinese smartphone segment in price competition.
The site says Amazon is expected to launch its first smartphone in 2013, with pricing toward the lower-end as competition remains fierce in the region.
It wasn't made clear whether or not Amazon's smartphone would stay solely in China, but the best guess is that it won't given the large U.S. market. Amazon might opt to release several models of a smartphone: lower-end for emerging markets and ones with more features for developed areas.
Shares of Amazon are ticking higher Tuesday morning.
