Amazon (AMZN) Aiming to Release Larger Tablet in Early 2012

August 31, 2011 7:23 AM EDT
Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is allegedly going to release a larger tablet PC, in addition to the 7-inch model expected to be released in October.

According to Digitimes this morning, Foxconn Electronics, the Taiwan-based manufacturer, is said to begin mass production of a 10-inch tablet in the first quarter of 2012, just after the holiday 2011 season.

Foxconn already produces the Kindle for Amazon, and notably does work for Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) as well.

Many have speculated about the potential success of Amazon's soon-to-be-announced device.

With a larger tablet expected in early 2012, will consumers still clamor to grab the smaller device, or wait it out and order it's bigger brethren?

Shares are up 0.6 percent early Wednesday.
