Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) has announced its entry into the burgeoning smartwatch segment.
TheVerge noted Friday that Alcatel's goal is to create a more affordable smartwatch.
Alcatel's device has a round face, similar to the Moto 360. The smartwatch also appears to have a smaller display, which is surrounded by a function, semi-active ring.
The device will connect to Android smartphones and will perform similar functions users have come to expect from a wearable device: monitor daily activity, take photos, control music, and receive notification.
Alcatel will present the device at CES next week.
